My question is about topology optimization within Abaqus.
Inside abaqus manuals available on the web, the stress is not indicated as a possible choice for design variable within a topology optimization but only for shape optimization (for example, see: http://130.149.89.49:2080/v6.11/books/usb/default.htm?startat=pt04ch13s02aus87.html), however, using the general algorith, it is possible to use the "stress" design response ad design variable in order to define an optimization constraint.
STRESS should be the maximum von mises stress within region according to definitions reported in abaqus manuals....
In my model I've defined the following constraints:
STRESS < 700 MPA
STRESS > 600 MPA
The objective function was to minimize volume.
In attached I've reported: optimization plot, von mises stress map about static general step and initial optimization cycles.
I don't understand why (looking at the plot) in the cycle num. zero the von mises is around 300 MPa when in the optimization output it is around 100 MPa.
How abaqus define the STRESS design response?
