most likely he was a brother of General Pedro Ampudia y Grimarest (January 30, 1805 – August 7, 1868). Pedro Ampudia was a General in the Mexican Army. The Family is most likely originally from Havanna / Cuba. - There is an article in Spanish language on clioregio.blogspot.com.

There is also a JPEG of a letter available in the internet, where Valentin is entitled as TTE.CORL.VALENTIN DE AMPUDIA. Consequently he was holding the military rank of a Teniente Coronel at this time.

Thank you, ever-so-much, for the excellent links to the genealogy of Valentin de Ampudia and his family. This is a very significant source of good information, and demonstrates the exact relationship of Valentin to the Grimarest family, as well as, his relationship with the important (in Mexican & Texas & Louisiana history) Salcedo family ... his mother was a Grimarest, but her mother (his grandmother) of the Salcedos. This really helps fill-out my understanding of the inter-relatedness of the influential Salcedo family with other politically well-connected families, such as the Grimarests (and, hopefully, ultimately also expanding the genealogy to show how they were related to the Arredondo family, another family who had a disproportionate influence on the history of late-18th and early-19th century Mexico and Texas, as-well-as several Central and Latin American nations).

There were quite-a-number of von Roeders known from the earliest history of the Republic of Texas, and I do not know much specific about the genealogies, except I believe they were early-on affiliated [inter-married] with the wealthy and influential Kleberg family ... after whom the county is named ... perhaps where it can be claimed the "birthplace" of the Texas cattle-raising-industry [in the corporate or commercial sense], and the location of the famed King Ranch [ see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Ranch  ],

one of the first of the huge Texas ranches [and still among the largest ranches in the world].

Below I copy an article from the Online Handbook of Texas [a very authoritative source on Texas history] authored by Flora von Roeder [there are still many esteemed descendants of the von Roeder families in Texas]:

ROEDER, ALBRECHT VON (1811–1857). Franz Ferdinand Albrecht Ludwig von Roeder, fighter in the Texas Revolution, son of Lt. Ludwig Siegismund Anton and Caroline Luise (Sack) von Roeder, was born on July 31, 1811, at Vorden, Westphalia, Prussia. On January 26, 1831, he enrolled at the University of Heidelberg, where he studied until the end of the 1831–32 winter semester. On October 1, 1832, he enrolled at Georg August University in Göttingen, where he studied law. In the late winter of 1834 Roeder, two of his brothers, Joachim and Louis von Roeder, and his oldest sister, Valeska, immigrated to Texas as an advance party for the purpose of establishing a settlement to which the rest of the family was to follow. Shortly after their arrival at Cat Spring in Stephen F. Austin's colony in July they became seriously ill with yellow fever, and Joachim and Valeska died. Albrecht and Louis were nursed back to health by their brother Rudolf and brother-in-law, Robert Justus Kleberg. From November 3 to December 13, 1835, Roeder served in the Army of the Republic of Texas. He participated in the siege of Bexar and after the fall of the Alamo, during the Runaway Scrape, helped the settlers rather than rejoin the army. After the war, Roeder returned to the vicinity of Cat Spring to farm. He was issued a certificate entitling him to one-third league of land on March 29, 1838. On August 6, 1841, he married his brother's widow Caroline (see HINUEBER, CAROLINE ERNST VON); they had seven children. About 1847 the Roeder and Kleberg families moved to the Lateiner Community (see LATIN SETTLEMENTS OF TEXAS) on Five-Mile Coleto Creek in the vicinity of Meyersville, DeWitt County. Roeder and his brother-in-law were among forty volunteers ambushed by Comanche Indians near Yorktown on Escondido Creek east of the San Antonio River. They both survived, but many of the volunteers, including Capt. John York, were killed. Roeder died on June 11, 1857, perhaps a casualty of the Cart War. His burial site is believed to be in the vicinity of Five-Mile Coleto Creek.
