A good in vitro model for iron deficiency?

Hi all,

I´m currently screening the literature for in vitro model of iron deficiency. From what I read so far, it seems that letting cells in a serum free media for 72h or using an iron chelator such as deferoxamine are the methods of choice. However I´m a bit concerned than those model are basically complete iron depletion and therefore wouldn´t yield the same result than a partial depletion of iron over a longer period of time.

Does anyone knows if such models have been developed so far?
