Hi everybody,

I'm following the Lambert, Ramasamy and Paukstells methodology for the quantification of cyanide (ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY, VOL. 47, NO. 6, MAY 1975 )

In this paper, the description for the preparation of the 2,4-quinolinediol reagent is:

"Dissolve 1.50 grams of 2.4- quinolinediol (Aldrich Chemical Co.) in a small quantity of water by adding a minimum amount of dilute sodium hydroxide solution. Adjust the pH to 7-8 by adding dilute hydrochloric acid. Add 15 ml of pyridine and dilute to 50 ml. "

After following this procedure, a suspension is obtained, opalescent, milk-like. After a few minutes, the reagent precipitates and an liquid phase is obtained at the top....

Does anybody have experience with this reagent? Any suggestions on how to prepare or what is going on?

Hope to hear from you

Best regards

Felipe
