I'm looking for scientific works on ZnO based Schottky barrier solar cells. I want to know about the most useful materials to form Schottky contact with Zinc Oxide.
If you want to form Schottky barriers between metals and ZnO assuming n-type semiconductor you have to select the metals with the highest work function to make the barrier height as high as possible. As the electron affinity of ZnO is equal approximately 4.3 eV, all metals or semimetals with work function greater than this value will produce Schotcky barrier with the hight of the barrier increases as the metal work function increases. One may use Gold and Platinum with Au (with a work function of 5.1 eV) and Pt (with a work function of 5.7 eV ) respectively. You may search for other metals and or semimetals like some metal oxides. For more information please see the paper in the link: http://www.rsc.org/suppdata/ee/c2/c2ee23404a/c2ee23404a.pdf
Pt metal has high value of work function, thus is suitable for using Shcottkybarrier with n-type semiconductors such as ZnO. However, i got an Ohmic contact between pt and ZnO nanorods and the reason could be related by the nature of nanomaterilas (high surface to volume ratio) that make the density of surface atoms very high.
