Photo-generated charge carriers in a solar cell must be separated then electrons (holes) are drifted toward negative (positive) poles respectively. Generally, the build in electric field is the responsible for charge carriers separation, in few articles I found that an external electric field may be applied in order to make the separation operation more efficient. I am looking for theoretical and experimental works in this topic.

The question is how would you practically apply the external electric field to aid in the separation and collection of the electrons and holes to the metallic electrodes.

Thank you for the paper. i saw the paper about the ferroelectric semiconductor non p-n junction. The idea is straight forward. But i noticed that the photovoltaic effect is is demonstrated but it is still very weak.
My feeling is that the electric dipoles produced by the doping or the work function difference between two material to produce a built in voltage in the material are more suitable than producing them by influencing a ferro electric material. The doping is far more controllable than the ferroelectic domains. This my believe. It may be right but it may be not right also.
