I used solgel method to synthesize O3 type NaNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2. I did XRD the achieved data from XRD is attached in file. I want to confirm that the material i synthesized is NaNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2.
After Autosearch in the Rigaku PDXL software selecting Na, Ni, Co,Mn, O elements. it provided me the three candidate phases NiO, Na5(NiO4) and Na0.6667(Co0.0417Ni0.2916Mn0.6)02.
From this candidate phases can i conclude that my synthesis is wrong. Instead i synthesize NiO, Na5(NiO4)...these compounds?

You did not mention the synthesis procedure and the condition of thermal treatment. Without that it is very difficult to give any clear explanation or advice.

You should examine and compare between the distribution of d-spacing in your XRD pattern to the one in the literature. Variation in compositions usually will create distributions in d-spacing, and therefore by comparing this parameter you can answer your question.
Thank you very much Dr. Stojanovic for your time. Regarding the process of treatment i used acetates of all the metals, mixed together in corresponding molar ratio. then did heat treatment for 4 hours at 400 deg. C . I grounded it , then again heated to 900 deg C for 12 hours.
Appreciate your time Dr. Silverstein. I agree with your idea of variation in composition will result in variation of d-spacing. However my concern is about knowing the material that i synthesized. I tried to synthesize NaNio.33Co0.333Mn0.33O2 with all the acetate precursors. After doing the XRD of that material, the result from XRD is as shown in fig. It shows the phase is Na0.6667(Co0.0417Ni0.2916Mn0.6)02 and other two phase. Does that mean this Na0.6667(Co0.0417Ni0.2916Mn0.6)02 compound is present on the material? Or it doesn't imply that? Just the basic concept of XRD result analysis. If you can share any references also that will be appreciated. Thank you very much !!

I strongly concur with what mentioned before. Prof. B. D. Stojanović is very right. The preparation technique and its preparative conditions plays a great role in the synthesis of the obtained composition. So you must review the stages of your preparation and the conditions.

There are about 13240 data base for five elements in PCPDF-WIN. I wonder if is there any crystal that contains the phase of Na, Ni, Co, Mn and O combination? It can be the combination of NiO, or Ni2O3, MnO2, MnCo2O4, NaNiO2, Na5NiO4 phases, etc but not NaNi0.33Co0.333Mn0.33O2 phase.

hi every one, i do my synthesis of LDH with Zn and Fe , i get my XRD result, there are some amorphe phase how i can determine this phases just by Rigaku PDXL 2 or i must use Jcpds file,??
