X-Ray diffraction is a well stabilised tool for qualitative analysis of different phases present in the material. Different X-ray machines have their limitation depending upon the minimum quantity it can detect. My question is, this limitation is in vol% or mass% ? For example if it is mention that a particular XRD has a detection limit of 2-3%, in general it is mass or vol%? I good reference will also be appreciated.

If you use a standard Rietveld refinement, the difference in mass, or more precisely atomic constitution (=electron density=scattering power), is taken care of by the structure factors. Thus, the scaling factors for each phase should reflect the volume fraction of the illuminated scattering volume. If you design your experiment correctly, this can be taken to represent the overall volume fraction, but there are quite a few buts here. You have to consider scattering geometry (Bragg/Laue), photon energy vs. absorption, and how the phases are distributed, size effects, severe texture effects, etc. With a properly designed experiment, it should be possible to reach the 1-2% detection limit, depending on scattering contrast between the different constituents.
I think the mass not effect but the type of mass . Any mass has the difference in x_ray diffraction .
We can constant the samples with different material but same mass to find the results.
