i am learning internet of things , i believe participating in writing a technical paper on iot will be a good influence on my career , but i don't know how to start ? , where to find colleagues ? , what qualifies a person to write a good tech. paper ? .
in other words i need guidance and mentorship

My main advice to you is to look for applications rather than protocols, and mind that IoT is good for very specific applications, mainly which needs simple action to do. Such as medical applications, alarms, warning, ..., ets.
Finally, seek the most recent references, and mind that 2016 is regarded as really old reference!

I suggest you choose one application specific field of IoT technologies and/or systems (i.e. smart transportation). This will facilitate your writting work.

I think the area of IoT and it’s application is huge and increasing day by day. In the meantime, the new technologies are replacing the old technologies. So, an individual should be aware of the old technologies to contribute in the new technologies.
However, find the technologies you are interested in and find very similar/related IoT projects and try to grab the idea behind each project. Finally, build your own project as a proof of concept and enlist all the results, evaluate your own works (project) in details by answering the what, how & why facts.
