Patrick - I've not thought about this before - but is something that publishers should consider. Many people are auditory learners - rather than visual - especially those with visual impairment. I haven't (and don't know of any of my target journals that offer the option) used video - but would be happy to. Academics can come across as 'dry and unapproachable' if their 'public face' is just a series of academic works. Academic Social Media can help to address this but still abides by academic conventions i.e. most don't use much humour in RG threads for fear of offending anyone. I would be happier to do so with a personal video where I can highlight what is humour and what is not - as well as selling their search 'product' in their personal style. Of course - what one should be wary of is lengthy and dry videos - such as just reading out the article verbatim.
do you mean a video as a sort of visual abstract to summarize your pubblication on linkedin', research gate? i never think about it but could be a nice idea.
Regarding video creation: for my Simple videos (you can see some example on my blog:https://proteocool.blogspot.com/?m=1) I'm actually using the Pinnacle Studio software - i acquired an old version 22 and it is quite cheap. (you can find it also on amazoon) it is very intuitive but as you can see i'm making simple and not very professional videos.
It is really great idea. We basically can show steps of methodology and show the final results in details, so that people get more input from the paper.
Manuele - my answer is based on interpreting that Patrick means a video accompanying the release of the journal publication in the first place - not on academic media. It could serve as a visual/auditory version of an article abstract. I could be wrong though. If not - then Kudos (GrowKudos) attempts this from a written form. It asks the author to offer a lay language summary, highlight the intended and actual impact - and offer an author interpretation (unshackled by usual academic journal process). I recommend Kudos to those that have not used it - and I like to think that my Kudos page is a good example of how to use it - https://www.growkudos.com/profile/dean_whitehead
