I would like to know if anyone has experience in regards of subcutaneous tumour models and whether the age of the mice may affect the rate of growth of the tumour. Would the immune system, angiogenesis or other factors in aged mice affect the growth of the subcutaneous tumour?

Alterations in host factors may underlie a variety of age-dependent changes that could influence tumor growth. There are many factors that are age-related such as deficits in immune mediated responses that promote tumor growth (such as lack of inflammatory cells and their secreted chemokines), increased tumor cell apoptosis and decreased angiogenesis (thereby providing less nutrients to the tumor bed).
Neovascularization is crucial for the growth of solid tumors, and alterations in the host vascular response may underlie the changes in tumor growth occurring with age. For instance, age dependency of VEGF coincides with a reduction in VEGFR-2 expression with age. Therefore, tumor may alter with age, partly due to a reduced capacity to vascularize the tumor because of a lack of angiogenic factors or the presence of host inhibitors.
But sometimes depending on the tumor-cell specific features, for instance, high levels of MMP activity may produce a permissive environment for tumor growth and angiogenesis that may allow the growth of tumor independent of the age of the host.
