Dear All!
I recently came across the magneto-absorption technique for estimating of effective carrier mass in semiconductor materials (e.g. Hirashawa et al., Physica B 201 (1994) 427-430 [1]), however I was totally unable to find that equipment nearby.
I guess it might be a rather elaborate setup or just not common (can only find one report from the year 1966), so I was hoping someone would be willing to share his or her setup either as an illustration or image or point me towards a reliable source for this kind of information!

Hi Chris,
There is usually no special setup for magnetoabsorption. The main device you need is a magnet, which provides magnetic field strong enough for your experiment and homogeneous across your sample. The magnet can be with or without optical windows. In the former case you have to focus white light source to your sample through 1st window using simple optical alignment and detect transmitted through the sample light via the 2nd window. If the magnet has no optical windows, then you can use optical fibres for lightening and light collection. Using fibres, it is problematic to work with polarized light. There are also techniques which allow you to obtain absorption from a measured reflection spectrum. This is useful when you have only one window (fibre) or if you have problems with holding free standing thin sample within the magnet. The sample within the magnet can be oriented in Faraday or Voight configuration.
