In my experience, It will help. I used to ask my students to reviews on what they had been taught during the last week. Frequent Q&A sessions and quizzes will help students to learn their topics of study. Combining these two methods will then be useful for them during their studies.

When students are required to write a "reviewer", think this can improve their quiz & subsequent exam performance. Reason being inside the "reviewer" indicates what key points / summary s/he has learned. Going through a student's "reviewer", the teacher / lecturer knows what / how much the student knows / know wrongly etc. so that the teacher can remind / clarify / correct the misconceptions etc. to improve his or her quiz / exam performance.
Think asking the students to compare & contrast the quiz / exam results with the "reviewer" s/he had done also can help him or her to identify which areas s/he is weak on, missed out or misunderstood etc. for further improvement.
As a student in psychology, I do believe that writing reviews does enhance ones ability to produce better test scores. I have found that when I research a topic and write a review on that topic, that my test scores remain consistently high. It really does not ever hurt the student to do a bit of research and review on the topic one is being tested on. Thank you. :)
In my experience, reviews enhance students understanding and performance. There students show how well understand his/her own work and pay attention on her/his weakness. Though it help to improve perfomance
Thank you very much for all your responses. I am planning to require my students to write reviewers before exams and requiring them to follow a certain format to ensure that they will do the task. Your responses had helped me decide to pursue with my plan.
