Will there be any effect on the DNA fragments if the electrophoretic gel is broken into pieces before elution?

we cut the DNA band of interest from the electrophoretic gel and then elute it using various methods. I want to know if the band of interest is accidentally broken into number of pieces and then if we elute such pieces will I be getting intact DNA fragments or not?
