Feel free to have fun with this philosophical science/ biology/ chemistry/ physics/ etc question. I am hoping to get deep into it! I hope that together, we can hash out some of the key features that may keep purely academic science alive or the factors that may lead to its doom!
The short answer is no. Evidence-based research has been and will continue to be vital for the advancement of society and the world. The type of training one received in the medical field, for example, has been a widely accepted standard that will only improve with the collaborative approaches of other fields (e.g., public health). Thus, collaboration has evolved and it the myriad of non-science subjects has offered new tools that will prevent the field of the academia to "die". If such thing were to happen, the society we know will cease to exist inevitably.
