Hi all,

We are extracting BDNF from hair samples, and for this, incubate the samples in 0.1 M citric acid made with 50% EtOH in water.

Why does the citric acid solution need to be in 50% ethanol? Is it for the BDNF? BDNF looks to be soluble in water, so I can't think why this would be necessary?

Would I be okay removing the ethanol step altogether, as it complicates things downstream, and making my 0.1 M citric acid solution in water only?

Thanks for your help!

Kirsten
