Why Strontium is not usually used as a host material for the nanoparticles synthisis ?

Why Strontium is not used as host material for the synthesis of nanoparticles for optical applications or any other applications?.

Even though it has large ionic radius and could be used as a host material and dope some other materials having less ionic radius. Please help me in this regard.
