I am not aware of any reason why tissue should be kept in darkness after biolistic bombardment. You just have to place tissue on the conditions necessary for plant regeneration, whether from explant or callus. Transfer to darkness can have an effect when transforming via Agrobacterium tumefaciens, though: http://www.tau.ac.il/~rrosen/LightAffectsAgrobacterium.pdf
Biolistic transformation, because it physically damages the tissue, is very stressful for the leaf tissue. Putting the leaves in the dark allows them to recover. Some researchers use low light conditions instead of complete darkness. You may want to test it for your particular conditions--bombard multiple leaves, and put half in the dark and half in the light. See which conditions give you higher numbers of transformed cells.
