Is there any specific reason not to change strain of the mice for the same cell line?
Could be down to metabolic differences or growth factor expression levels. As long as you have the appropriate controls you can use other strains but must be careful drawing conclusions when comparing to other studies that used a different train.
Could it be ability of the mice genome to produce HIF-1 differently? In immunocompromised mice, several enzymes produced tends to lose their function.

Because different strains of immunocompromised mice exhibit differing levels and types of residual immune effector cells, and this in turn may alter the efficiency of tumor cell engraftment.

Malcolm Nobre I am not sure about immune effector cells and how they are involved in the strain difference. I will check and discuss further.
