Sir, This 10 TPD brackish water RO plant is installed in Puttalam District and all the filter modules and RO membranes are replaced. However, it was observed that the RO membranes are frequently clogged. What would be the probable causes and what are the actions to be taken to overcome the defect.
It would be useful to do an autopsy of the clogged membrane to observe what type of scales are on the membrane. For inorganic foulant, you need to add in some antiscalents. I agree with Brandon Lee about performing an autopsy of the clogged RO membranes. However I do not entirely agree about the suggested cures without knowing the results of the RO membrane autopsy along with the key quality parameters of the RO feed such as TOC, TSS, turbidity, cations/anions, SDI, pH, ...
Antiscalants prevent only a part of mineral fouling/clogging i.e. the precipitation of bivalent cations and biocides prevent only a part of organic fouling/clogging i.e. biofouling by micro-organisms. In addition, the biocides shall not oxidize the delicate RO membranes such as chlorine based ones.
