I have read a number of papers on OLEDs and photodetectors where quantum dots are added to enhance the device performance and the claims are increased sensitivity, improved wavelength response, targeted wavelength range and so on. But the exact working principle is not mentioned that how do QDs contribute in improving these characteristics. Also, the size of QDs should be important but mostly there is no relationship presented with the QD size and any given characteristic.
