The two representations are crystallographically equivalent. That is, the same orientation relationship can be represented either as
{110}a//{111}g, a//g
or as
{011}a//{111}g, a//g.
The first relation says that a plane of type {110} of alpha is parallel to a plane of type {111} of gamma and a direction of type is parallel to a direction of type . This fixes the orientation of the gamma crystal with respect to the alpha crystal. For this same orientation a direction of type will also be parallel to a direction of type . Thus we have the second relation.
