We're intrinsically more motivated to learn through rich, face-to-face social interaction than we are to learn through leaner media such as video conferences, pre-recorded videos, or books. The rich interactions keep us engaged. We're easily distracted and bored with the leaner interactions.

The traditional class-room approach to learning is a critical factor of Social constructivism that develops out of individuals’ interaction with their culture and society. Traditional class-room knowledge evolves through the process of social negotiation and evaluation of the viability of individual understanding. Basically, every conversation or encounter between two or more people presents an opportunity for new knowledge to be obtained, or present knowledge expanded (Lynch, 2016) hence with social distancing this is not possible. Therefore many students would prefer to go back to university rather than engage in online-learning. All knowledge develops as a result of social interaction and language use, and is therefore a shared, rather than an individual experience. Knowledge and learning is additionally not a result of observing the world, it results from many social processes and interactions. We therefore find that constructivist learning attaches as much meaning to the process of learning as it does to the acquisition of new knowledge. Going back to university creates a Sense of belonging which is the psychological feeling of belonging or connectedness to a social, spatial, cultural, professional, or other type of group or a community (Hurtado & Carter, 1997). ... I suppose, you already have an intuition for this answer and we just have to motivate it properly. We all know that this pandemic (and most of the previous year, 2020) has been a disruption to our "regular" or "ordinary" normal. For all its worth, this season of disruption affirms that we are beings that thrive in regularities and patterns. This is what the daily rigors of going to school/office brings us. These disruptions indicate that we yearn to be settled in any levels and meanings of the term. The risk is there, of course. But intelligent and informed understanding of the risk will let us weigh the facts of matter and of our existence. We are social, communal, intelligibility-driven beings. There is no reason arguing to the contrary.
