When we download different hydroclimatic data from CORDEX, we can observe that most of the data are with a resolution of 0.44 degree latitude × 0.44 degree longitude. Is there any particular reason for such resolution?
Few RCMs provide data with 0.22 degree latitude × 0.22 degree longitude as well, but only for Europe region. However, the question remains the same. What is the necessity of such 'odd' resolution?
The explanation of the seemingly strange resolution is provided in the following brief description of the regional climate model on the UK Met. Office website:
“It has 0.44 x 0.44 degrees resolution with a rotated pole to achieve approx. 50 km x 50 km resolution on 19 levels (used for the EU region, South Asia, planned for East Asia). Also used is a double resolution variant at 0.22 x 0.22 degrees (Western US, planned for EU and Africa)”.
The same observation applies to any other region of the globe where you center your limited area domain of the regional climate model.

I think it due to the degrees resolution of the area. Also its depend on the location of the area under the study. Overall its considered as a good accuracy for Global Data.
