The importance of modern technology to academic communities is surely highlighted by our current situation. Modern tech gives us the ability to network and remote work as well as giving access to a wider range of people and resources than previously. OK current events are extreme but do highlight possibilities.
However, there is a down side in that people are being forced to unnecessarily use this tech in some instances which excludes certain groups previously able to work in academia.
The implementation of technology in schools helps close that gap. Technology has the ability to enhance relationships between teachers and students. ... Technology helps make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun. Students are also able to collaborate with their own classmates through technological applications.
Too many to mention, apart from just efficiency and digitization of academic material, but in light of this, Technology has made 'border-less' and 'life-long' learning a reality.
Modern technology is considered important in the academic community as it is an important means of doing business and effective communication between academics
If I may Sachin Suknunan comment on your point. In the case of life-long learning there have been many instances where technology has proven an obstacle to this. The rush to implement concepts such as e-learning has been of value to many. However, in the case of lifelong learning in the UK it was badly thought out and has resulted in people with certain disabilities being either excluded or severely restricted due to medical conditions being triggered by this technology. These are people who could previously study via hardcopy but no provision was made to allow for this. So, while the efficiency and digitisation of material have made great improvements in academic connectivity it has also resulted in some being newly excluded.
Oh, good gracious! What a question! It's important because such technology is often ALL a modern student knows! If you asked him or her to find any single bit of data on the shelves of a university library or in a printed encyclopedia, that person would think you are nuts. Of course he or she could get a full (but not necessarily the definitive) answer from a search engine like Google or Bing.
What's more, a video report by the above-mentioned student might actually be more thorough than a written essay as attempted by me and others in the "old day," what with the ability to attach video, music clips, etc., to said report.
A better question might have been, "What are the LIMITATIONS and DRAWBACKS of modern technology in the academic community?"
Modern technology is important in the academic community because it makes communication between the teacher and his students possible in all circumstances and the Corona pandemic is an excellent example of that.
Because it changes so quickly, It is a primary part of every industry, and there is no way around it. These days, technology means more than just learning basic computing skills. Technology has made itself part of every aspect of our lives today.
The research options are much better, but there is a risk, that you will be too believing in data. A tool does not make a craftsman and a bookcase does not make a scientist. You can see that in the style of work: I see that modern academics work far less from their desks, even though the Internet would be an excellent way to save time and effort. Many science forums and review journals are not worth the name, because they are concerned with "public relations", but not with their main task: to provide data. Do the funding institutions consider this?

Technology is already interweaved in every industry and so the academe should prepare the students to be knowledgeable. There is also a done side to this in the academe as more and more focus on teaching technology, the basic rationale why things happen has not been discussed thoroughly.
During the current global epidemic, technology enables educational faculty and institutions to communicate in order to deal effectively with all of the many problems of providing instruction to students. Furthermore, teleconferencing is enabling communication of research findings usually shared with colleagues who travel to conferences. Technology is more important during this crisis than it would normally be.
I think that the technology could offer a large possibility to have information in every field. Nevertheless, it is necessary to check the same information, because of errors and mistakes. For this reason, in my opinion, the linked sources of every piece allow to understand its own quality and find new sources. At the end of all, maybe the most important thing, is the possibility to contact others in the whole world. New contacts, new science, new friendship (sorry for mi so-so English). giuliano
(1) Borderless classrooms : the best teachers can be available to every student regardless of geographical boundaries (2) Student oriented teaching : students are free to choose time and place when and where they want to learn, instead of depending on teachers' time-tables (3) Digitization of learning materials has enabled quick dissemination globally without degradation and additionally with the scopes of re-usability and customization (4) Mobile based learning have cut down on the costs of computer infra-structure and made education more affordable to everybody
Ranjan Parekh although the current crisis has thrown up the problem in the UK that many can't access this technology due to lack of equipment or lack of broadband access, schools shut and posting material online are finding that many students can't receive it for these reasons. Its something the powers that be didn't consider, but then when it comes to the wonders of new tech they never seem to.
