I notice in many articles, researchers measure the loaded drug (e.g. in wound dressing) releasing rate in a buffer (e.g. acetate buffer). Why should we do like this? Drug releasing rate in a buffer doesn't mean the same as in the real wound, does it?

The in vitro release kinetics of nanoparticles provides critical information regarding their ability to modify the drug release, thus is an important parameter to be considered for the assessment of the safety, efficacy, and quality of the products. When performed properly, they can be correlated to in vivo behaviors through predictive mathematical models.
