In plotting the strength of a rock against anisotropic angle, while a generally U shaped curve is observed for anisotropic rock masses in uniaxial and certain confining pressures' conditions, why do we also observe an undulating, wavy curve, with local maxima for certain confining pressure values?
Do you have a rock with more than one anisotropy directions? What kind of rock did you investigate?
Perhaps the wavy form is a result of bedding and schistosity.
I'm using numerical simulation method. The samples are calibrated to Mancos Shale. The attached figure, however, shows the results of true triaxial testing performed on synthetic sand lime blocks. It's from the following paper:
