Isn't 6500 K bluish? To me daylight looks yellowish. We've all coloured the sun and sunlight as yellow since we've been kids. Someone please explain why 6500 K is standard. Is it something that was set as standard after being measured only in a certain geographical location?

The unobscured sun appears white, except when it is low on the horizon or obscured by clouds and dust. You can only stand to look at it in the latter situation when it is heavily reddened, thus the reason people remember it as yellowish. Not sure why 6500 K is used though, since its actual surface temperature is only about 5800 K.
