I am preparing a thin film using TiO2 sol but i m fasing problem, with time it is precipatted in solutiojn and becomes milky.
Will you help me in that.
It's quite difficult to guess the chemicals to explain the reactions, the milky aspect of your system is related to big agglomerates of particles..
Thinking about a classic sol-gel route (alcoxides), if titanium IV isopropoxide is the precursor, in alcohool (isopropanol), the condensation is occuring faster than it should, try adding chelant agents as acetylacetonate, and using weaker acids like acetic acid. Avoid humidity.
You can also check for Brinker's book (sol-gel science), it will help a lot.
Both titanium isopropoxide as well as titanium butoxide form milky solutions. Even if we try using acetone as oil phase or ethylene glycol as stabilizer, white precipitate is still formed after adding water for hydrolysis.
