The use of K2 EDTA blood test tube is more recommended because of its less hyper osmolar effect on blood cells compared to K3 EDTA tube.

Hi Alec! K2 EDTA is used more than K3 EDTA in blood anticoagulation because when the EDTA concentration is stronger, K3 EDTA has a higher chance of shrinking RBCs. In another light, when the blood sample is left to stand for a certain period of time, K3 EDTA is more likely to cause an increase to the size of the cell.
