i have synthesized titanium dioxide via sol gel process with tetraisopropoxide as precursor and acetic acid and water.....etc
the sol is formed and it is heated to form a gel.... then a gel is dried after i do calcination of the photocatalyst in furnace at temperature 500°C for three hours.
In XRD analysis i have an Anatase form of titanium dioxide but in 2theta=50.3 i have presence of peak that correspond to zirconium oxide tetragonal as it is described in software (match)
why i have presence of zirconium oxide tetragonal i TiO2? may be do too the calcnation??
I suspect you have some ZrO2 contaminations from your crucible or similar. ZrO2 is typically used for high temperature applications in furnaces. Another possibility could be that your Ti-precursors is contaminated with Zr.
Without the presence of ZrO2 how come the XRD matches to ZrO2 tetragonal phase? It is better to do the synthesis once again taking care of any shorts of contamination.
Dear researchers, to discuss this question in the fields of ResearchGate is not serious. After all, you can explain the impurity to everyone. Maybe a friend poured, the head can check the thoroughness of the work ... There is no alchemy.
Dear Allouche: Have you checked the EDX of your sample to confirm that you really have ZrO2 along with TiO2?
I would repeat the synthesis to verify if there was no external contamination, which is very likely. Performing a quick EDX analysis would confirm if you really have zirconium oxide in your material.
