I see so many questions here that basically amount to, "how do I analyze my data?" All too often, these are issues that should have been worked out in advance, before the data was collected. Sadly, in some cases, there is almost no way to do an effective analysis on the data that was actually collected.

This problem seems to be particularly common with survey research, where people have figured out how to write questionnaires, but apparently have just assumed that there will be some way to analyze the data, once they have it.

I myself was taught to "design your data collection in terms of your intended analysis strategy." In other words, For example, if you were planning to do regression, then you would need interval-level independent and dependent variables, and so on.

I suspect that the underlying problem is poor monitorship, so that the only thing we can offer on ResearchGate is repair processes. Still, I would like to hear others' thoughts about the source of this problem and whether or not it is preventable.
