Braun & Clarke's article on Thematic Analysis has nearly 10,000 citations in Google Scholar, so the method must be quite a success.

Still, my students feel frustrated by the leap that it makes between "Searching for Themes" and then having them. I agree, because it seems to me that the method simply assumes that if you search hard enough, you will indeed find thmes -- but it doesn't say enough about how this happens.

But maybe I am being too pessimistic? What do others think?
