i was running an implicit analysis for 2 days and system shut down and the restart analysis option is not working since i toggle on the overlay option showing an err"there is no frame for step-2 increment 37". i read that the reference frame will still remain even if the system shuts down if the overlay option was used.
so i tried with an example to not use the overlay option and it worked .
can anyone suggest how to restart my analysis(since i had used the overlay option at the beginning to reduce memory usage)
Hi, Mr. Harish Kumar. This is one possibility that the analysis happed to be writting results on res.file while the system shut down. So you could not point to the lastest increment since the record is not complete. If this is not true, you can try to restart analysis at an ealier increment. The frame need to be the correct, you can deduce from the frequence of writting restart file. e.g. N*Freq.of res.writting.

actually the freq=1 for an example i chose and still it dint show up. for eg. in the middle of my analysis it shut down my system at inc=35. then it means the reference frame 34 is still there and the problem has to be in 34(which is getting deleted) and 36(which written) but my data for inc=35 should be present right?
I mean the analysis during which your system got shut down could have a incomplete record if freq=1, because it was overwritten, but not finish yet. I sugest you check the volume of a complete res.file and the one when system shut down. So it really depends. If this is not a big issue, you can temperarily copy the res.file during your way of analysis and jog down the step no. incr. no. just in case. good luck!
See, when you had toggled on Overlay option, what you are doing is that you overwrite data. You should use Overlay option only when you want to restrict the size of the restart file (.res file). When you request data to the restart file at all increments (frequency = 1), then what happens is that the size of the file will be very high. To restrict this, Overlay parameter is used.
But remember, at the end of 10th increment, when Overlay parameter is toggled on, all data in the restart file till the 9th increment is deleted. Now you will have only data pertaining the the 10th increment. Hence, you cannot go back to the 9th, 8th , 7th or other increments. You can only go to the 10th.
I guess this is why your restart simulation didnt work, maybe you tried to go back to the previous increments. As you have mentioned about system shut down, I guess maybe you used Overlay and data was reset, but before the next data could replace the deleted data, the simulation might have been stopped. This means that the previous data was deleted (due to using Overlay option) and the subsequent data was not yet input.
