Perovskites are becoming popular materials for solar cells. This is mainly due to the optimal band gap and property of ambipolar diffusion of electrons and holes.
I came very late to this question. As it is a basic question i will answer it.
The halide perovskite material is formed as ,an intrinsic material. In order to make a solar cell one builds PIN structure where the intrinsic perovskite is sandwiched between an n type ETL and p type HTL. Such structure double injection occurs such that the i layer will contain electrons and holes in about the same concentration. If there is a concentration gradient of one, the other will have the same gradient and when they diffuse they diffuse together by diffusion mechanism called ambipolar diffusion.
The ambipolar diffusion is prevailing in PIN diodes or PIN diode like structures such as the halide perovskite.
