I'm a student studying carbon nanoparticles.
When i do TGA analysis of carbon from room temperature to 800'C under nitrogen, The data showed an almost constant mass up to 500'C, but thereafter the mass tended to decrease continuously to 800'C. (Finally the mass was 75 wt%)
If it is originally, is not pyrolysis under nitrogen a little change in mass? (except of H2O evaporation)
What do you think about this case?

It is possible that your carbon material in not totally pure.
The mass drop you see is probably the decomposition of your material's impurities.
Technically speaking, I have found sometimes my TGA apparatus not properly maintaining the nitrogen environment at temperatures higher that 500-600 oC. In this case I repeated the measurement (under nitrogen again).

My carbon nanoparticle is carbon by carbonizating dopamine.
I agree that my carbon material in not totally pure.
It is because the mass change seems to be too severe even if it is not pure.
( 100 wt% --> 75 wt%)
I currently measuring again (under nitrogen gas)

Personally, it's because there are some pre-sorbed impurities on your carbon, and these impurities may react with nitrogen or just self-decompose under higher temperature. Hope it helps.
