Why does Lactobacillus reuteri grow in MRS agar and not in liquid MRS?

I bought an ATCC strain of Lactobacillus reuteri but it grows only in MRS agar (aerobic and microaerophilic conditions) but not in liquid (aerobic, anaerobic and microaerophilic). Do you have any experience in this regard?
