A tap water sample was being analyzed by DME. With the first standard addition of lead (in HNO3) the lead peak is a little more positiove than usual. On the second and third standard addition the lead peak is at its usual potential. in a secnd run the tap water sample was acidifed with HNO3 this time the lead peak was ok after the first standard addition.
Firstly: Lowering of pH increases lead solubility, esp. in the presence of anion conc., like Sulfate changed to Hydrogen-Sulfate with a pKs of 1,92

Adding HNO3 to the water samples lowering the pH and increases the solubility of metals. Therefore, it will increases the solubility of lead in water.
