sometimes, the researchers decided to publish their work on open access journal while there are a lot of other, high quality, journals without publication fees. Is open access journals easier than other journals?
Because of difficulties that we face from some free publishing journals.
About 2 years ago, I submitted a manuscript to a free publishing journal. After 75 days I received the reviewers comments, so I revised the paper according to their comments and sent it again. After 165 days I received a rejected letter!!!!!!.
This process took about a year, so one year was lost in waiting for free publishing.
Open Access journals are intended to be faster, though not necessarily easier.
Many, if not most, Open Access journals provide the number of days until a first editorial decision is given, and the number of days to publication online after acceptance.
Compare that with traditional hard copy journals that can take many months for a first decision, and possibly the same again for a decision on a revised version.
Then wait another year until the paper appears in print.
Academic journals in Finance can charge hundreds of USD for an original submission, and a similar amount for a revised version.
