I believe that the goal of publishing research should be to address scientific problems

Most people write and publish for the following reasons,

1- More Opportunities

2- More Job Interviews

3- More chances of career promotions

4- More salary

5- More prestige, honor, and respect.

However, we forget that these things are the result of not publication, but they are the result of service. How many people have we served, how many patients, doctors, students, scientists have we served with our paper.

If we write and publish to serve, we will get all of the above mentioned things as a result.

Service is the cause and success is the result.

Publication with no service is NOT the cause. Publication with service is the cause of success. Success is the effect.

Many people think that I will serve after I become successful. They forget the fact that service comes first, success is the result.

We are all bound to the natural law of the universe called CAUSE AND EFFECT.

Scholars submit the findings of their research for publication for a myriad of reasons; a few generalizations might be:

Expand the frontiers of knowledge

Expected by our universities (e.g., merit, promotion, tenure...) &/or colleagues

Potential for acknowledgement/recognition

Enjoyment

I love to publish in bits and pieces which have a little bit of originality or good documentation works, likely to be helpful to others.

Some do not like documention works but I suggest them to look at the usefulness of TL-2 (Stafleu & Cowan's Taxonomic Literature)

Scientific publishing has scientific and financial benefits for publisher(researcher) and for society, and this work is not free of competition

It depends on person to person. Different people have different reasons for publishing.
