Have you paid to publish 1 or more papers as "open access" in a hybrid journal (i.e. journal that has an open access option, but is not mandatory)?
If so, what was your primary reason for electing to pay for and publish your article(s) to be open access as opposed to non-open access?
I opted to pay for open access to increase access and readership. As I found out at my new institution, a number of schools, even large ones, have rather limited journal access to journals in my field. For the paper I paid for open access, I would not have been able to read that article at my school without going through the intralibrary load system. So I had some extra money and decided to pay for OA to increase access. If I didn't have the money, I wouldn't have been able to do it, and it is one of the reasons why I don't usually submit to OA journals - the cost.
Now publishing a paper is really not easy. there are many issues: similarity index and finding appropraite referees quality quick revitew process so not easy also they need budge for expenditures..
