Over the past couple of years here in the Maritime provinces of Canada we've experienced 2-3 days of extreme warming (15+ celsius) in months when temperatures should be near or below 0 (e.g., February and March) followed by rapid cooling (to ~0 celsius). Could a longer period of this warming (e.g. 1 week), followed by rapid cooling, single-handedly eliminate populations of species that, for example, use temperature as a spawning cue?
