A lot depends on the quality of material used for the face mask. Problems could also arise from not wearing the mask properly (correctly). Whatever the case, most masks are not 100% safe. But then, nothing is really.
There are lots of issues other than face mask. Individual, institutional factors are there too. Duration and frequency of exposure and severity of cases are involved also.
Thank you Maurice Ekpenyong and Muhammed Ashraful Alam for your answers. Health professionals contamination is a serious problem and need to be studied.
Use of Face mask is not the only protective gadgets for healthcare professionals. Even the facemask has variety and some are at risk of contamination than others.
In the hospital or clinical settings too, there are several points of contact with patients and instruments that can predispose the physicians or health professionals to Hospital acquired infections, one of such is COVID-19.
Therefore the reason for the scenario mentioned in the question. Thanks
You are welcome. I still support the use of the face mask, as one part of a package of protection. If both parties are wearing N-95, think of if; that would reach statistical significance!
Face masks, being a safety device, can greatly lower the risk but not eliminate it; the most important variable is given by the behavior (respect of the procedures) as well as by the quality and typology of the masks.
1. Quality of the mask and number of layers that and area of coverage
2. Each mask has an expiry date, hour-basis
3. Other infections from eyes and ears could happen
4. What we have heard by now, if an infected person with a mask being in a big room, after first few hours, even if all 4-5 other persons in a room wear a mask, they will all be infected.
So, lots of issues and considerations are there to take care of.
