After electrooxidation of an organic material, I get an excessive increase in absorbance values in wavelength scanning. What could be the reason for this? Can Radical formation cause this?
Additional information: I studied electro-oxidation for diclofenac (pharmaceutical) synthetic solution with Ru-IR coated titanium anode electrode and used NaCl as an electrolyte.
Difficult to answer without further information on the organic material, the electrooxidation conditions etc. I would guess that you synthesized compounds with functional groups that cause a hyperchromic effect?

I think that when you oxidize, most likely, you are adding oxygen atoms to your structure, and now you have increased the delocalization space for your former electrons, which produce a bathochromic effect. At the same time, if such oxidation is occurring at the o- or p- position with respect to an electron-withdrawing group, then the charges splitting will be higher, producing also a hyperchromic effect.
