Why are odontoblasts detached from predentin when pulp proper is pulled?

We were trying to do a tooth-crown odontoblast culture (as shown in Tjaderhane et al. 1998; Veerayuthwilai et al. 2007) but could not get one with odontoblasts attached to predentin. They were removed along with the pulp proper. Is there any particular precaution to keep the odontoblasts intact?

Advice is really appreciated.
