I noticed laboratories store bacterial cells at -80°C. I wonder if there any studies or anecdotal evidences showing that -80°C storage for bacterial cells works better, in terms of whichever variable, than -20°C storage.
At -20°C, some enzymes such as protease and lipase keep its activity besides some chemical reactions. For this reason the storage life at this temperature is few months compared to -80°C storage which is several years.
