I have Ag nanopowder (50 nm - 80 nm). Why does the powder look black? Does this mean it is absorbing and not scattering? Should t change colour when suspended in water?
This is where I bought it from. It says it is supposed to be black (pl. refer attachment). So can I assume it is because of aggregation. Does it mean they will be of the color of light (wavelength depends on size) that they scatter when the particles are present individually?
Black color is due to chemical reaction like oxidation. Such reaction is faast in the presence of light. There will not be any change in the color of water once it is suspended in water.
