I am trying to observe sinusoidal signals with different types of noise in a DSO (TEKTRONIX-TDS2004B). while applying sinusoidal signal with white Gaussian noise (with SD=0.1) it fails to calculate the frequency of the applied signal. It is showing random frequencies in kHz range. What could be the reason behind this? or it is not possible to do so.
However, It calculates the frequency of sinusoidal signal with uniform white noise properly.
It could be just a bandwidth limitation.
What is the difference between the frequency of the sinusoidal signal and the frequencies of the white noise windows that you applied ?
As I see, your uniform white noise window could be working because it's narrowed to some frequencies of the spectrum, while the gaussian white noise includes, theoretically, all the available spectrum. Thus, you could not have enough frequency discretization in this case because you are working with a signal widely spread in the spectrum.
Try to see if you can limitate the gaussian white noise frequencies, or at least to narrow an analysis range of the spectrum in your equipment. Another thing to do is to try to reproduce this problem using some program, like python or matlab and see if this feature happens there as well.
