I have synthesized a catalyst using different composition ratios of carbon and graphene, like Gr-C=(1:1), (1:4),(2:3),(3:2).(4:1), catalyst having (1:1) support is best in activity. What is the strong reason for this?
Catalysis what reaction? Enhanced in ORR activity was accomplished by successfully exploiting the plethora of edges of the nanosized graphene as well as the efficient electron communication between the active edge sites and the electrode substrate. Perhaps graphene nanosheets +carbon (1:1) represent the best ORR performance ever achieved from an undoped carbon based catalyst
As graphene has a high tendency to restack and thus, carbon could also plays a role of spacer to prevent such restacking leading to an overall better accessibility of the composite.
this might depends on the accommodation of volume change by graphene during catalysis of the catalyst, which enhances the any possible activity, the function of carbon is to only serve as a host to comply the changes in the architecture of graphene, hence together both are strengthening each other
you should read about the inter molecular forces separately they have different interaction when combined they have different interactions. It may be the possible reason and also check the surface area if in both cases it is same then the forces phenomenon will be responsible.
