Many teachers are asking in threads for advice about how to be successful in preparing students for life and career. Occasionally I look back into the personal portfolio where some of the most influential teachers are mentioned. Some are vivid in memory, but others are seldom thought of or not remembered at all.
Most prominent are the teachers, who helped to make a life choice. Next are those who helped to accomplish an objective or overcome a difficulty. Also remembered are those who went beyond the essential syllabus with insight into new directions toward undiscovered knowledge. Then there were the very bad teachers, like one who said there was nothing new to discoverer in his field. I made sure in later life that I did in fact discover something he had overlooked.
